Musicians Page
This section is intended
to help all music students learn the language, science, and math of
music. Understanding this aspect of music will broaden your
comprehension of any musical style and it's mechanics. These
theories have laid the foundations of Western music and will
continue to for the foreseeable future. With just a basic
understanding I guarantee you will look at and play music
differently. Just as and instrument is used to create sound,
these theories are used to help us understand and create music.
As you learn, I hope your appreciation grows for the
engineering that goes into the creation of music. Thoughts and
emotions are translated into sound. How do composers strike
emotion in our hearts? Why can music make me feel and think
things, transport me to a different mood, make me forget, make me
remember? It is no mistake.
Music is a moment in time, the paper that the notes are
written on is not. Notation is a time capsule, an archive of
history, a communication tool. Understanding notation will
open you up to possibilities that an "ear" player will never
achieve. It will allow you to understand and appreciate every
moment in music with a discerning ear.
To play past works, a musician must breathe life back into a
piece of music. To craft your own works, move forward with
intensity, emotion, and honesty. |
